README – 11, State Level Technical Paper Presentation Competition
FLAMES, the Association of Mechanical Engineering Students and the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized a One day State Level Technical Paper Presentation Competition on
"Recent Advances in Mechanical Engineering".
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis, Principal, St Joseph Engineering College, Mangalore. Inaugurating the programme Dr. Joseph Gonsalvis asked the students to orient themselves in the area of inventions and innovations.
Illustrating some of the important inventions and innovations in the area mechanical engineering he explained how these improved the life of people. He motivated the students to become entrepreneurs and contribute to the development of the country. Emphasizing on building the character he gave a call to the students to improve the personality to face the challenges of the future.
Presiding over the inaugural function Dr. D. L. Prabhakara, Principal commending the efforts of the department for providing a good platform called on the students to make right use of the opportunities thrown before them. He explained with some case studies how students can improve their knowledge and understanding by participating in such programmes.
Dr. Thirumalesh Bhat of St. Joseph’s Engineering College, Dr. Sudesh Bekal, NMAMIT, Nitte, Dr. Dilip Kumar, Srinivasa Institute of Technology and Prof. Umashankar, KVG College of Engineering were in the distinguished panel of judges.
State Level Model Competition
More than 30 students from Various engineering colleges of the state demonstrated their working models related to Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Sudesh Bekal, professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering inaugurated the model Competition.
Cash prizes with medals were awarded to the students who have created best models.
Technical Seminar
Seminar on "Compressor Refresher Course For Process & Mechanical Engineers",
by Mr. PRAKASH SHETTY, Managing Director, Gasotech Consultancy & Marketing Services And Director, R.S.Group of Industries, Gurgaon, Haryana India.
Mr. Prakash Setty dealt on various types of Compressors used in large and medium scale Industries for various types of applications.
He Introduced different type of compressors and their important construction features, Criteria for selection of type of Compressor and the applicable API for design. He explained in detail the Driver Types for various types of compressors and Process Controls used for Specific Compressor Types.
Also he has distributed CD’s containing seminar material on compressors to all the students.
More than 200 students and staff participated in the Seminar.

READ ME - 10 A State Level Technical Paper Presentation Competition for students was held under the aegis of FLAMES, an association of Mechanical Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management on 6th March, 2010. Nearly 200 students to part in the programme. 48 papers were presented in 3 different themes. Students from all over the Karnataka i.e. from Bidar, Shimoga, Chickmagalur, R.V. College and other colleges from Bangalore, Tumkur, Haliyal etc., were present at Sahyadri campus to participate in this programme.
Prof. Raghunandan - Chairman, Dept. of Aerospace Engineering, IISC Bangalore inaugurated the program.
Prof. V.Ganesan - Professor of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras delivered the key note address.
Dr. B. S Samaga - Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Dean Academic, NMAMIT, Nitte was the Chief guest during the valedictory programme.
